Tiger’s On Top Of The World

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

Tiger Woods has shown some early season form which for all the other golfer in the world is a scary site to see. He has won 3 titles in the last 5 events and by the end of March. You couldn’t argue that Tiger could well be back to his best hitting the world number 1 spot for the first time since October 2010.

But I think the question on everyone’s lips is: Can Tiger win a major championship? He has been very close over the last 5 years, but he has yet to break the 5 year drought to add to the 14 majors he has already won in his illustrious career. Tiger is still looking to continue to chase down Jack Nicklaus’s 18 major titles.

Tiger will not play now until the Masters where he will continue his battle with Rory Mcilroy for the world number one spot. Surely Rory won’t be happy that he has been knocked off top spot after his longest spell as the world number one.

Tiger Woods has already this season earned $3,787,600 from career earning and has taken his PGA Tour wins to 77, lying second in all time PGA tour wins, 5 behind Sam Snead on 82. If Tiger continues in this rich vein of form he could easily overturn that deficit by the end of the year with 3 wins in 5 appearances, a 60% conversion rate.

Tiger spoke of his return to the world number one spot “It’s a by-product of perseverance and patience. I’ve won some tournaments in the last couple of years, as a consequence I’ve moved up. I’m pleased with the way I’m playing.”. I think the most worrying thing for his rivals is the way in which he played his current form down.

Tiger didn’t reveal much when asked about his chances for the Masters “It’s the next event I play.” But he did reveal “It’s been a few years since I felt this good. It has been years since I have hit the ball this consistently week in, week out. I’ve been hitting it pure and made my share of putts. Stricks [Steve Stricker] helped me out at Doral and I have managed to carry that on.”

Woods only hit 60% of fairways in his final round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but his recovery play ensured he went on to win the championship. Woods was 1st in gaining shots on the greens which is something that we were use to seeing a couple of years back when he made pressure puts on a regular basis.

Woods’ Star Appearance in Malaysia

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Although Rory McIlroy might be shooting to the top of the golf world, Tiger Woods is still drawing in attention from fans and the media alike. Whilst McIlroy has taken second place in the BMW Masters in Shanghai this week, the CIMB Classic in Malaysia was given a touch of the ‘Woods Factor’.

As one of only eight from the top 50 ranked golf players, Woods’ appearance at the $6.1 million tournament shone some attention on the action. Jason Dufner, one of the 48 players competing in the CIMB this year, said that the 14 times major title champion brought a boost to the event, which is set to become part of the 2013 PGA Tour’s Fedex Cup schedule.

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Tiger Woods Starts Open Well
The world is certainly looking up for Tiger Woods who this morning  started proceedings with a birdie. With a form that is yet to find new peak, sports fans are already putting their money on him to win yet another major title.

With Luke Donald and Lee Westwood both playing on their home turf however, Woods will face stiff competition from two athletes that are both arguably at the top of their form.

However, Woods should not be downhearted by this as he as already stated at a conference that he is now fully fit from his operations and is strong enough to compete on any level and at any event; looking therefore, to add another win to his three current victories of 2012.

Tiger falters on final day

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

On a week that initially promised so much, Tiger Woods will have left this weeks US Open wondering what might have been.

Woods finished on seven over par, six shots off the eventual winner Webb Simpson, leaving him in a tie for 21st place.

For two rounds Woods seemed to be in total control, being tied for the lead on one under par. However, a five over par third round and a three over par final round proved to be his undoing as he now enters four years without a major success.

Even going in to the final round Woods still had an outside chance of mounting a challenge, but an opening three holes of bogey-bogey-double bogey proved too costly as he was then always too far away to contend.

Hopefully the Tiger of old will return so we can see him challenging for future majors!

What Tiger will wear for this weeks US Open

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Tiger Woods outfit for this weeks US Open has already been decided prior to his arrival at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

The US Open tees off this week at The Olympic Club, the second major of 2012 and arguably the toughest test in golf. The Olympic Club in San Francisco is a monstrous 7170 yards long as is a mere par 70! This includes the now infamous 16th hole that is one of the longest in holf; a huge 660 yards!

This week also gives Tiger Woods another chance to add to his major championship resume as he’s looking for his first US Open title since 2008. His opening two rounds will be played with fellow Americans Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson.

Nobody knows what he will shoot this week, but we do know what he’s going to wear, thanks to the above photo released by Nike.
